Empowering women in STEM
One of my key aims is to inspire children to be interested in science, especially at a young age, and to pursue engineering as a profession. I saw a heartbreaking picture when I walked into the first session of my volunteering project at remote villages. Only six of the 32 pupils were female. That was my first indication that a societal and cultural issue prevents girls from pursuing their education—that moment also served as a wake-up call for me. I spent my intended hours offering opportunities to explore science and identify students who required assistance in continuing their studies. I tried and achieved my goal of encouraging children, especially young girls, to study STEM. It was great to witness the joy and courage in children's eyes as they learned how to persevere and pursue their aspirations to obtain their desired education. Receiving insightful feedback from students and parents encouraged me to continue working with those families even after the initiative finished. My moral obligation is to contact them, even if it is just a phone call, to communicate with them and transmit opportunities for those in need.
